Mortal Kombat X is the latest game in the Mortal Kombat franchise. Developed by Nether Realms Studios (and High Voltage Software for PC) and published by Warner Bros. Interactive, Mortal Kombat is a fighting game which introduces a whole new set of characters along with a healthy helping of existing characters from the game lore. Mortal Kombat is a fighting game, in which players control a character which fight against 1 character at a time which is either controlled by AI, or by another player. All fights take place in interactive environments, where players can use various objects to their advantage. The environments also vary from frozen mountain top monasteries to desolate desert towns. The USP of Mortal Kombat however is the graphic violence that this game depicts. Blood and gore, decapitation and mutilation is the staple of the game, which is highlighted by the extremely gory fatalities and brutalities which involve but are not limited to cutting a hole into someone's chest and then grabbing and breaking their spine in half. The story mode puts the players in the shoes of various different fighters, as they try to prevent Shinook from overtaking the Earth Realm. The story skips between the present and flashbacks, weaving a completely new tale which focuses on the next gen Mortal Kombat fighters like Cassie Cage (daughter of Johnnie Cage and Sonia Blade), Kung Jin (nephew of Kung Lao) and others. Other modes include Towers where the players are offered a random string of enemies to defeat which in turn earns them coins, which can then be used to unlock various fatalities and costumes. Online modes include classic matches, King of the hill, and faction towers where players can be part of 1 of the 5 factions available and earn points for their faction. These points are tabbed and reported in a leader board which updates 1 faction as the champion every week.
